What is a Free Radical
Free Radicals: A free radical is a very small particle, about the size of an atom. In fact, a free radical can be considered as an actual atom which has been changed very slightly by some simple natural process. Oxygen, for instance, is an atom which contains 16 electrons arranged around the central nucleus. These 16 electrons are arranged in three rings, with four electrons in the inner ring, 8 electrons in the middle ring, and 4 more electrons in the outer ring.
If one of these electrons is "lost" through some simple process (such as heat or being hit with radiation, or in other ways) ONE of those electrons in the outer ring can be "pulled off," or "lost."
You then still have an atom of oxygen, but it has only 15 electrons around it rather than 16. It has lost one electron.
Furthermore, this atom of oxygen now has only three electrons in its outer ring. That outer ring actually contains an ODD number of electrons.
That is a very simplified explanation of what a free radical is. It's an atom, or other similar particle, with an ODD number of electrons arranged in its outer ring.
Nature seems to like even numbers! When an atom has an odd number of electrons in its outer ring, it is anxious to find another electron, so that it can have an even number, or it is also willing to give up one more, so that it still has an even number. Nature loves even numbers of electrons in the rings around a nucleus of an atom.
When that atom tries to get another electron, to make itself "even," it can actually "steal" an electron from somewhere. When it does that, it can cause considerable damage.
Without getting too technical, for instance, there are tiny parts within your body which control your hereditary, and which control how more cells are created and grow. These are often called the "blueprints," or the DNA inside your cells. The DNA is nothing more than a complex set and very large number of connected atoms, each with some number of electrons revolving around it. As this free radical comes into contact with this DNA, it can "steal" a simple electron away from the DNA.
It is possible that the electron which is taken won't cause any damage to the DNA, or it possible that the electron which is taken could change the DNA so much that the next time the cell multiplies, it mutates, or changes, into a cancer cell. You then have cancer!
There is a great deal of evidence that virtually all disease, including cancer and heart disease, is caused by damage to these small parts of the body (the DNA within each cell) by free radicals.
You take free radicals into your body when you breathe in cigarette smoke, or smog, or when you eat fried foods, or margarine.
A free radical only exists for a very short time -- a few millionths of a second. It travels very fast, hits something inside the body, and is "stopped." But, whatever it hits then often loses an electron in the process, itself becomes a new free radical, and this new particle moves along, very fast, for another millionth of a second, until it hits something else.
This process is often called a chain-reaction of free radicals. One free radical hits something, gets stopped, but in the process of being stopped, creates a new free radical which, in turn, moves along for a very short time, hits something, is stopped, but creates a new free radical.
Thus, one free radical can start a chain-reaction in which dozens or even hundreds of further free radicals are produced, one at a time. When a free radical hits Vitamin C, it stops. Vitamin C is sometimes called a "free radical scavenger," because it stops free radicals.
Any one of these free radicals could somehow hit the DNA of a cell and cause damage. The free radical would probably stop, and perhaps a new free radical would not be created, but the DNA, in the mean time, would be damaged, and that one piece of damage could, some day, cause that one cell to be turned into a cancer cell.
Terrible things, these free radicals.
But, it can get worse!
Toxic Metals You often have in your body tiny pieces of metal, like mercury (from your fillings) or lead, or even iron. They are like time bombs, waiting to cause trouble. These are so tiny that you could say they are almost the size of atoms. Perhaps several atoms, but these are tiny pieces of metal which are, actually, toxic.
They are still little-appreciated by traditional medicine -- but they probably cause most health problems! They certainly cause heart disease and cancer!
These pieces of metal can be so small that they can easily get embedded inside some tissue or organ of the body. This little piece of toxic metal can get stuck inside the liver, for instance, or the kidneys, or the heart, or just about anywhere. You could consider that this organ has a "sliver," or a very tiny piece of metal sticking into it.
There is a mechanism, actually, whereby the tissue or organ tries to protect itself from this dangerous toxic metal, and can grow more tissue AROUND the toxic metal, to cut it off from other parts of the body.
But, there it is, still, this tiny sliver of toxic metal, stuck into your body somewhere. You could have millions of these!
So much for mercury fillings! Now that's not so bad, but when a free radical happens to bump into one of these tiny pieces of toxic metal, instead of a simple chain-reaction of ONE new free radical being produced, there could be MILLIONS of new free radical produced from this one impact.
Get the idea! The free radical from your latest meal of French Fries, is moving along inside your body, hitting various things, getting stopped, starting a new free radical moving along, and somewhere along the way this little murderous particle hits a tiny piece of toxic metal.
Whoops! We now have 1,000,000 new free radicals created in that split second. Each of them moves off in some new direction, spreading all through the body. Many of them will hit OTHER pieces of toxic metal, causing other MILLIONS of free radicals to become newly created, each of THEM ready to do damage to your body.
Don't worry too much 'cause this has been going on inside your body for years and you're not dead yet!
So, while we try to find ways to stop free radical from creating chain reactions in your body (Vitamin C does this very well, thank you!), we should be far MORE concerned with preventing these free radicals from ever coming into contact with toxic metals in the body.
Very fortunately for you, there is a method of doing this!
How It Works!
When you take Life Glow Plus capsules, at the rate of about 20 per day, you are getting 300 milligrams every day of a miracle substance known as the amino acid, cysteine, and another 300 mg of the super form of it -- N Acetyl Cystein. We even have oral EDTA in the formula. (When you take the Super Life Glow, you get even more.)
You'll find on another page a fuller explanation of how cysteine does it's wonders, but let me say here that there is lots of research that shows how cysteine does this.
What it does is to REMOVE those tiny pieces of toxic metals from your body.
All by itself, this is a fantastically healthy change in your body.
But, when there are fewer of these tiny pieces of toxic metal inside your body, you have far fewer of these dangerous free radicals being produced inside your body.
We're getting to the final point, now.
The next thing you need to learn is how these free radicals cause heart disease and how they cause "hardening of the arteries."
I think I'll leave the detail of that for another page, but briefly here. When the cells inside your arteries are damaged by free radicals they don't always die instantly. Often they get weak. When they get weaker, they lose some of their ability to get rid of garbage. A lot of the garbage that a cell wants to get rid of is calcium. So, this cell inside your artery can't get rid of calcium, and calcium accumulates inside the cell. After a while, the poor cell dies!
It can't live in all that garbage.
At that point the cell could be said to be "calcified." It is mostly calcium. (But when you swallow calcium tablets, for instance, that calcium doesn't add to this problem. This problem is caused only because the cells, individually, can't get rid of the calcium inside. Whether there is more or less calcium OUTSIDE is not a factor.)
You get the idea, from the above, that we have a very scientific foundation for how this formula works.
You can read much more about this in the Book, Life Flow One, The Solution For Heart Disease, by Karl Loren. You can read more about that Book, and place an order for it, at www.karlloren.com.
There is an exact mechanism by which these tiny pieces of toxic metal are removed from the body. The ingredient in the Life Glow Plus formula which does this miracle is an amino acid called cysteine as well as N Aceytl Cysteine and even EDTA.
